Glass Options

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is approximately four times stronger than annealed glass. When it is broken, tempered glass fractures into smal fragments that reduce the probability of serious injury. 1/4" Tempered glass is typically used in single-glazed door and window applications. Tempered glass meets all safety glazing standards including the federal safety glazing standard, CPSC 16 CFR 1201.

Insulated Glass

The standard 1" commercial IG unit consists of two lites of 1/4" annealed, tempered, or laminated glass, and a nominal 1/2" air space. Custom IG unit designs can be fabricated with glass thicknesses ranging from 1/8" to 3/4" and with airspace thickness ranging from 3/16" to 7/8" having standard spacer colors of clear, bronze and black anodized, and mill finish aluminum. Insulated Glass Chart

Laminated Glass

Laminated Glass is a multifunctional glazing material that can be used in a variety of applications. It is manufactured by permanently bonding two or more lites of glass with layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer, under heat and pressure, to create a single assembly. Laminated glass products are ideal for Safety Glazing Applications, including bullet, blast and forced entry resistant, hurricane resistant, seismic, sound control, and decorative applications.

Bullet Resistant

Bullet resistant glass is a combination of glass and polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is one of the toughest clear plastics, having 250 times the impact strength of glass and is used toward the rear of the laminate to flex and absorb the energy of the bullet. Bullet Resistant glass is assembled in various laminated configurations to meet UL 752 requirements. Bullet Resistant Glass

Sound Control

Sound Control glass consists of proprietary assemblies of laminated glass in various configurations designed to meet specific STC levels in doors, windows, and storefront sections Sound Control Section

Fire Rated Glass

Fire-rated safety glass is made of two lites of annealed clear float glass filled with a proprietary fire-resisting resin that provides fire and safety features without the use of wires. It is considered to have the same bending strength of annealed monolithic glass of the same size and thickness. Fire Rated Glass

Important Facts About Stiles Patina Finishes

Patina finishes offer a natural color variation as opposed to paint or anodizing. The irregular patterns, color intensities and substrate metal all play a part in the ambience of a patina finish. In addition, each individual artist will produce a slightly different "application signature" to the piece. If you require a finish that is perfectly uniform in appearance, we suggest you specify a Tnemec or powder coated finish rather than a patina (metallic paints and powders available).

Clear Coat

An optional high-performance factory-applied clear coat is available in satin, semi-gloss, and high gloss sheens.
